With its brilliant capabilities, confident styling, and seven-seat cabin, the Toyota 4Runner may be a leading contender in your search for an SUV. At Sunshine Toyota, we focus on getting each customer behind the wheel of their ideal vehicle, and we are thrilled to give you full details about the differences between the 2022 and 2023 Toyota 4Runner. What should you be aware of before you make your final SUV selection at our Toyota dealership?

Performance

The 4Runner is offered in eight trim levels for 2022. The latest model year offers nine options with the introduction of the 40th Anniversary Special Edition trim in 2023. All trims across both years receive 270 horsepower from a V6, 4.0-liter engine, and this engine features an auto five-speed transmission. The lower trims offer the option for a rear-wheel or four-wheel drive. The higher trims have standard four-wheel drive. Higher trims also have an advanced suspension, an extra off-road drive mode, and a locking rear differential.

Appearance

If you opt for the 2023 4Runner 40th Anniversary Special Edition, your SUV will be accessorized with bronze-colored wheels, a special design for the grille, and orange and yellow stripes. For all 2022 and 2023 trims, the 4Runner displays a tall, squared-off body shape with substantial ground clearance. The thick headlights have a pointed LED light bar for definition. You will notice raised roof rails and square wheel wells on the sides. Select trims have all-terrain tires, a front skid plate, up to 20-inch wheels, and other gear.

Features

The new 40th Anniversary Special Edition for 2023 is differentiated inside the cabin by bronze stitching on the seats. Otherwise, the features in the 4Runner are unchanged. The base 4Runner has an 8-inch touch display screen, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, reclining and split seats in the second row, a household power outlet in the cargo space, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, adaptive cruise control, lane departure alert, forward collision mitigation. The more advanced trims for 2022 and 2023 add a JBL sound system, a navigation system, a sunroof, leather material, heated front seats, an auto-dimming rear mirror, and a few additional features that undoubtedly appreciate.

* Before towing, confirm your vehicle and trailer are compatible, hooked up and loaded properly and that you have any necessary additional equipment. Do not exceed any Weight Ratings and follow all instructions in your Owner’s Manual. The maximum you can tow depends on base curb weight plus the total weight of any cargo, occupants, and added vehicle equipment. “Added vehicle equipment” includes additional standard/optional equipment and accessories added by the manufacturer, dealers, and/or vehicle owners. The only way to be certain of your vehicle’s exact curb weight is to weigh your vehicle without passengers or cargo. [Calculated with the new SAE J2807 method.] Installation of a tow hitch receiver or other accessories located near the rear bumper may require disabling or removing the kick sensor, and the sensor operation setting in your vehicle should be turned off. See Owner’s Manual for limitations.
** Blind Spot Monitor: Do not rely exclusively on the Blind Spot Monitor. Always look over your shoulder and use your turn signal. There are limitations to the function, detection and range of the monitor. See Owner's Manual for additional limitations and details.
** Rear Cross-Traffic Alert: Do not rely exclusively on the Rear Cross-Traffic Alert system. Always look over your shoulder and use your mirrors to confirm rear clearance. There are limitations to the function, detection and range of the system. See Owner’s Manual for additional limitations and details.
